ortheastern Pennsylvania, whose waters are
steeped in American angling
history, boasts some of the best
fly fishing for trout in the world.
Among its prime trout waters is the Lackawanna River, which was
a heavily polluted urban waterway for many decades during the
region's
coal-mining heyday. Today, thanks to the efforts of local conservationists
and fly fishermen, a five-mile stretch of the Lackawanna is a designated
Trophy Trout fishery teeming with wild brown trout.
The region is also home to the Upper Delaware River, a pristine tailwater
fishery treasured by anglers worldwide for its gorgeous surroundings and
large wild brown and rainbow trout.
Northeastern Pennsylvania also is home to the fabled Brodhead Creek,
which was home to Teddy Roosevelt's Henryville Fly Fishers. A number of
other fly fishing clubs, including the prestigious Blooming Grove Club, have
made their homes on the region's trout streams.
Dozens of well-known streams, including The Tunkhannock Creek, The
Dyberry Creek and Bowman's Creek, provide first-class public angling
for seasoned pros and beginners alike. For anglers looking for
other kinds
of action, the area's lakes and rivers, including the Susquehanna, provide
excellent fly fishing for bass, carp and other game fish.
